SHARING OUR TABLE
About the Food Pantry
Our Food Ministry runs the Food Pantry program once a month, usually on the last Saturday of the month from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. We feed approximately 300 local community members and welcome community volunteers of all ages. You don't have to be a member of our church to serve with us. We are happy to meet new friends and welcome your service. People who speak Spanish are always needed.
Our Food Pantry Director is Joanne Macaluso. She can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
Who We Help

FOOD MINISTRY DONATIONS
The Food Ministry welcomes donations of food, clothing and money to support our outreach program.
FOOD DONATIONS: The most desirable Food donations are: canned tuna fish, peanut butter jars, canned soups and vegetables, beans, macaroni and cheese, pasta, pasta sauce, juice (preferably in plastic containers), juice boxes, cereal, Parmalat and dry milk. We cannot distribute food that is past its "sell by" date.
We also really need donations of baby wipes and toiletries including toilet paper, sanitary products including tampons and pads, soap, shampoo, deodorant, tooth paste and tooth brushes.
The program seeks to distribute clothing "in season." We can only accept clean, gently used or new clothing. Children's clothing is welcomed. Donations can be dropped off when the church offices are open or during services on Sunday.
Please call the Administrator if you want to arrange a donation. (908) 756-0750.
The First Unitarian Society welcomes monetary donations directed at the Food Pantry program. These donations are used to purchase food at very low prices from the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and at sale prices from local supermarkets. Checks can be made out to "FUSP" with the words "food pantry " on the memo line. Donations to the food pantry are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
ABOUT THE HOLIDAY MEALS
The Holiday meals are offered on the day of the holiday, and are generally scheduled from 11:30 to 1:00 pm. Anyone who comes to our table is gladly welcome to share a meal with us. Please contact us to make sure that the event is being offered at that time.
Volunteers cooks and servers should call/email ahead at least 3 weeks before the holiday to coordinate service and donations. A home cooked meal with all the trimmings for approximately 300 guests is a big undertaking and we welcome your service and your help with the organization.

The Food Ministry of the First Unitarian Society of Plainfield is one of our most important and beloved outreach programs. For almost 128 years, the First Unitarian Society has shared our table and fed our community. Presently, we offer an all volunteer run monthly food pantry and holiday meals on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.
Our holiday meals are a great success! Usually we serve 250-300 people at each event. More than 75 people volunteer to help make homemade food and serve at these events. We welcome volunteers and recommend that you call ahead if you can volunteer for these events. Other faith based communities, organizations and schools have partnered with us, making the holiday dinners a joyous and meaningful inter-generational community service opportunity.
In addition to these outreach programs, we also offer community meals from time to time to serve, support and share with our neighbors.
